Jammu, Feb 5: Conflicting statements of the founder of the Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan Party and former Minister Choudhary Lal Singh added fuel to the rumours of him rejoining the BJP. Amid rumours that the veteran leader is rejoining the BJP, Choudhary Lal Singh in an informal chat with media persons neither denied nor confirmed his rejoining the Saffron Brigade. “Things will be cleared at the appropriate time. As of now, I will say it’s all rumours”, Lal Singh replied when his attention was drawn to reports of his rejoining the BJP. Sources said that a group within the BJP has suggested the idea of bringing back Choudhary Lal Singh to the party before the Lok Sabha elections. “Some leaders within BJP have started back door talks with the Choudhary Lal Singh to explore possibilities of his rejoining the BJP”, sources said. Important to mention here that after grilling him for three days, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had formally arrested Choudhary Lal Singh in a money laundering case on Things will be cleared at the appropriate time.

Some leaders within BJP have started back door talks with Singh
A group within BJP has suggested the idea of bringing back Singh to the party. November 8, 2023 The ED arrested Singh after his anticipatory bail was rejected by the Anti-Corruption court in Jammu on November 7. A local court on November 24, 2023 granted interim bail to Choudhary Lal Singh. Founder of the Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan Party (DSSP) Choudhary Lal Singh is a two-time Lok Sabha member and three-time MLA. Singh switched from Congress to the BJP in 2014 and was also a minister in the previous PDP-BJP government, which collapsed in June 2018. Singh had been a two-time Lok Sabha member from Udhampur-Kathua parliamentary constituency and a three-time MLA from Basohli. Last time, he was elected MLA during the 2014 assembly elections as a BJP nominee after he had quit the Congress and joined the Saffron Brigade. He was later inducted as a cabinet minister in the PDP-BJP coalition government. Later, he floated his own party, Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan, and even contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from both the Jammu-Poonch and Udhampur-Kathua constituencies, but lost in both places. |
