Jammu, Feb 6: As the ongoing agitating in Ladakh in support of statehood and sixth schedule is gaining momentum, the BJP leadership is not happy with the local party leadership especially the Lok Sabha member Jamyang Tsering Namgyal for his failure to control the stir. Highly placed sources said that security agencies have sounded the central government that ongoing agitating in Ladakh has been virtually hijacked by some Congress leaders of Leh and the National Conference and Congress leaders in Kargil. “Instead of using their influence to counter influence of NC and Congress leaders in the ongoing agitation, local BJP leaders are functioning as mute spectators”, sources said and pointed out that the high command has taken very serious note of such attitude of local BJP leaders. The Ladakh Apex Body has been demanded inclusion of Ladakh in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, which provides safeguards for tribal rights. It is in force in tribal areas in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram. The Kargil Democratic Alliance has been demanding statehood for Ladakh. After the reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019, Ladakh was made a Union territory without any legislature and is governed by the Lieutenant Governor. |
