Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 16: In a concerted effort to combat the menace of drug abuse, the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir, in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Jammu, organized a one-day awareness programme at the Auditorium of MAM College Jammu. The event, held under the Union Government's NASHA MUKT BHARAT ABHIYAN, aimed to educate and empower college students, NCC Cadets, NSS Students, faculty members, and the general public about the dangers of drug addiction. The programme, inaugurated by Sh. Javid Ahmed Matto-IPS (DIG Crime Branch J&K), saw the participation of approximately six hundred attendees. Guest lectures were delivered by distinguished speakers including DIG Crime J&K Sh. Javid Ahmed Mattoo-IPS, Dr. Muzaffar Jan (Director of Drug De-Addiction Centre, PCR Kashmir), and Sh. Laeeq Ahmed Dar (Joint Director Prosecution, Crime Branch J&K), who shed light on health, awareness, and legal aspects related to drug abuse. Sh. Raj Kumar- JKPS (SSP ANTF J&K) delivered a comprehensive lecture on the menace of drug abuse, highlighting the alarming rise in the number of drug abusers, peddlers, and distributors across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The session provided insights based on research studies conducted by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in collaboration with AIIMS, outlining the gravity of the situation. During the programme, attendees were urged to play an active role in combating drug abuse by educating their children about the dangers of narcotics and psychotropic substances. They were encouraged to support drug dependents in seeking proper treatment at hospitals and drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centers. Additionally, participants were encouraged to report any drug-related activities to ANTF, assuring confidentiality of informants. The event was attended by various dignitaries including Sh. Amarjit Singh SSP (SO to Spl.DGP Crime Branch J&K), Sh. Gurdev Singh Rakhwal (Principal MAM College, Jammu), Sh. Ajay Sharma SP South, and Sh. Tanweer Ahmed DYSP ANTF Jammu. The collective efforts of law enforcement agencies and community participation were emphasized as crucial steps towards eradicating the menace of drugs from society. |
