During the protest, Rekha Mahajan was flanked by senior BJP leaders namely Former Minister Sham Choudhary, Prabhari Jammu South Ayodhya Gupta, DDC Prof Garu Ram Bhagat, former Dy Mayor Baldev Billowaria, former MLC Vikram Randhawa, District General Secretaries Akash Chopra and Pushpinder Charak, Mandal Presidents Vijay Sharma, Bharat Bhushan, Ranjeet Singh, Narinder Gupta koki, Shalu Gupta, Karuna Chetri, Pumi Choudhary, Neeraj Dewan, Abhinav Anand, Amit Sharma, Pardeep Sharma, Er TK Sharma and other party cadres were present on the occasion. While addressing the media correspondents, Rekha Mahajan demanded the removal of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for questioning the allegations of sexual assault raised by women in Sandeshkhali. It is pertinent to mention that Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district saw violent protests earlier, over alleged sexual harassment by local Trinamool Congress leaders. Rekha said the protests by women were spontaneous and there was no politics in it, with the BJP only trying to “protect them and help them raise their voice.” She also claimed that what happened to women in Sandeshkhali was similar to the atrocities against women in countries such as Iraq and Pakistan. Rekha demanded the culprit should be hanged and deserves nothing less than capital punishment,” she said, alleging that Hindu women in the area were targeted and the accused sheltered by the administration as the Trinamool cares for only one community. Rekha’s blistering attack on the Mamta government added that women are most unsafe in a State ruled by the country’s only woman Chief Minister. Rekha Mahajan asserted that the sad thing is that the West Bengal government is not doing anything. If women were not safe under the rule of a woman chief minister, then questions start to arise on the law-and-order situation in the state. |
