JALANDHAR, Mar 9: On the occasion of International Women's Day, Lovely Professional University (LPU) united in a joyous celebration of women's achievements, resilience, and unwavering spirit. The event, titled 'She Rises: Celebrating Women's Day,' took place on the vibrant campus, echoing the theme of 'Investing in Women: Accelerating Progress.'
LPU Pro Chancellor Rashmi Mittal, graced the occasion with her presence and extended heartfelt wishes to the entire female staff and students of LPU, embracing the spirit of Women's Day. In her inspiring address, Rashmi Mittal emphasised the pivotal role of investing in women as a catalyst to drive progress. She highlighted the importance of transformative women's empowerment, which encompasses the fundamental values of decision-making freedom, gender equality, and power. Acknowledging the simplicity of these ideals, she underscored the need for substantial investment in women to transform them into a reality. By investing in women's education and training, we can contribute to the economic growth of families and the nation as a whole. She encouraged women to embark on a journey of self-education and self-reliance, laying the foundation for a more progressive society.
The event pulsated with a rich tapestry of cultural performances, each weaving a vibrant narrative of the lives and contributions of remarkable women in India. Students mesmerised the audience with Indian group songs, soulful Western solo performances, enchanting Kathak classical dances, thought-provoking Kavi Sammelans, and captivating displays of dance and mime.
A special theme dance, 'A dance for Mother India,' took centre stage, where students masterfully portrayed the stories of freedom fighters and other influential women who have reshaped the narrative of India. Through the art of mime, the audience witnessed Arunima Sinha's remarkable journey, from a harrowing encounter with robbers on a train that cost her a leg to becoming the first female amputee to conquer Mount Everest. Her story served as a testament to the resilience and determination that lie within every woman. Fun games and a fashion show were also organised for all women.
