BSS, Dogri Sanstha organise Classical Music Concert | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 10: Bharatiya Sangeet Sansthan in collaboration with Dogri Sanstha Jammu organised a captivating classical music concert at K.L. Sehgal Hall, Writer’s Club, here last evening to celebrate International Women’s Day. First of its kind in Jammu, it was participated by nationally well-known artists like Vidushi Dr. Kamala Shankar and Pt. Vinod Lele from Banaras who enthralled the jam-packed auditorium with remarkable jugalbandi of Shanker Veena and tabla. Local artists like Dr. Roshi Shamnotra, Prabhat Bali and Nirmal Sufi too proved their mettle in classical music by their superb performances to make the musical evening a memorable one. Justice Sindhu Sharma, Judge of J&K High Court, Justice O P Sharma, former judge of J&K High Court and music maestro V. K. Sambyal popularly known as Rangeeley Thakur were among the galaxy of music lovers, litterateurs and artists who witnessed the event. The musical evening started with welcome and introduction by Vasundhara K. Singh and lighting of the lamps in true Indian style during which a group of students of V. K. Sambyal sang Saraswati Vandana harmoniously. Dr. Roshi Shamnotra, faculty member of the Institute of Music & Fine Arts, presented two compositions and Tarana in Raag Bihag. She was accompanied by Prabhat Bali on Tabla, Nirmal Sufi on Harmonium and Devangi on Tanpura. The main highlight of the musical evening was Raag Shyaam Kalyan and a Dadra on the Shankar Veena presented by Vidushi Dr. Kamala Shankar, accompanied by Pt. Vinod Lele on Tabla. The jugalbandi was a rare classical musical feat that mesmerised the audience. All the artists were honoured by Justice Sindhu Sharma, judge of J&K High Court honoured Vidushi Dr. Kamala Shankar and other artists on behalf of the organisers. Speaking after the conclusion of the outstanding classical musical performances, Prof. Lalit Magotra, President, Dogri Sanstha Jammu said that such programs help in getting attached to our roots. Indian Classical Music and Dance are our identity which should be preserved and promoted. At the time, when western influences are quite evident in music and dance, we need to realise that we have some responsibilities towards our roots as well. He said that there is no malice with other cultural traditions but when it comes to survival of our own, then undoubtedly, we are bound to be accountable. He said that he was confident that such positive steps would yield promising results and the Dogri Sanstha would always be at forefront when such initiatives are taken. Bharatiya Sangeet Sansthan, Jammu aims at harnessing the talents of local artists. This initiative by V. K. Sambyal also provides a forum to promote Classical Music in Jammu. Prominent artists are also invited from outside the UT to perform and inspire the budding youth. The jam-packed auditorium with enthusiastic fans last evening was a tribute to the commitment of Sansthan to the promotion of classical music in Jammu. Raj Kumar ‘Behrupia’, a well-known theatre activist and a classical singer, conducted the proceedings. |
