Jammu, Mar 21: Today marks the commencement of the highly anticipated PackTech Asia 2024, inaugurated at Regale Park in Jammu. Mr. Rahul Sahai, Chair of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) Jammu Chapter, extended a warm welcome to attendees, emphasizing the significance of this event in showcasing the robust Indian packaging industry. The event, spanning from March 21st to 23rd, underscores India's thriving packaging sector, anticipated to achieve a turnover of $32 billion by 2025, driven by increased demand for packaged goods post-pandemic. Day one of PackTech Asia 2024 witnessed a remarkable turnout, with over 100 exhibitors, approximately 60 foreign buyers, and around 1000 business visitors participating. Notable participation from countries including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and others highlighted the international appeal of the exhibition. In his address, Mr. Sahai emphasized Jammu and Kashmir's strategic position, particularly as a leading producer of fruits, underscoring the region's potential for growth in agriculture-based economies. Mr. Sahai further appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir Government for support in establishing vital facilities such as a dedicated Food and Packaging Park, cold storage units, warehouses, and a modern exhibition venue. Such infrastructure, he argued, would not only bolster local businesses but also generate significant employment opportunities. The inaugural session shed light on the Government of Jammu & Kashmir's industrial policy initiatives aimed at propelling growth in packaging, food processing, and plastics sectors. Shri Vikramjit Singh, Secretary of Industries and Commerce, reiterated the government's commitment to fostering a supportive ecosystem conducive to sectoral growth. He emphasized investment promotion, skill development, technology adoption, and sustainable practices as key pillars of the industrial policy framework. Under the investment promotion pillar, the government offers various incentives to attract investment, including land allocation and infrastructure development assistance. Additionally, emphasis is placed on skill development programs and technology adoption to enhance productivity and sustainability. Environmental sustainability remains a core value, with initiatives aimed at promoting eco-friendly practices and waste management solutions. Stakeholders were invited to collaborate with Jammu & Kashmir in its journey towards becoming a hub of excellence and innovation in packaging, food processing, and plastics manufacturing. The event was attended by distinguished dignitaries, including Shri Arun Manhas, Director Industries, Govt. of J & K, and Shri Khalid Jhangir, Managing Director, JKTPO, Govt. of J & K. The inaugural session, moderated by Shri Naveen Seth, Deputy Secretary General of PHDCCI, highlighted the collaborative efforts of government bodies, industry players, academia, and civil society in fostering economic growth and inclusive development. |
