Handicapped man struggles to secure scooty | Urges LG Sinha, Prime Minister Modi to intervene, help him | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 21: In a heart-wrenching tale of personal struggle, Mushtaq Ahmed Mir, a handicapped man from North Kashmir’s Bandipora district, has been tirelessly attempting to secure a scooty promised to him by the administration following a tragic accident. Mir, who sustained multiple injuries after falling from a tree a few years ago, has been left with significant physical impairments, severely impacting his mobility and livelihood. Despite surviving the ordeal, Mir’s life has been fraught with challenges, exacerbated by the lack of accessible transportation options in his rural community. With the promise of assistance under a government scheme, Mir embarked on a journey through the labyrinth of administrative procedures, hoping to secure a scooty that would provide him with much-needed independence and mobility. However, his efforts have been met with frustration and disappointment as he has been repeatedly redirected from one office to another, with no concrete resolution in sight. Speaking to Early Times, Mir shared his poignant ordeal, recounting the countless hurdles he has faced in his quest for assistance. “I appeal to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to intervene and help me,” pleaded Mir. “I am a poor man. I lost my earning capacity after falling from a tree. The scooty would have helped me to move from one place to another to do some menial jobs.” As Mir continues his uphill battle for basic mobility, his plight serves as a poignant reminder of the broader challenges facing persons with disabilities in rural hinterlands. |
