Ajatshatru Singh calls for UN intervention in Pakistani-occupied Kashmir at Geneva Convention | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 23: In a compelling address at the Geneva Convention, M.K Ajatshatru Singh, a senior BJP leader and former minister, has lauded the Indian government's bold decision to abrogate Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. Singh hailed the move as a historic correction of the longstanding injustice faced by the region's inhabitants over the past seven decades. Citing data, Singh noted a remarkable decline in terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir since the constitutional reforms of 2019. He highlighted a reduction of over 70% in terrorist activities, attributing this positive trend to the government's effective measures in restoring peace and stability. Furthermore, Singh emphasized the socio-economic progress in the region, citing a significant decrease in poverty levels from 40.45% in 2005-2006 to a mere 2.81% in 2022-2023. He underscored the government's commitment to Jammu and Kashmir's prosperity, noting the allocation of a substantial $14 billion in the recent interim budget for 2024. However, Singh also acknowledged the economic disparities in regions under Pakistani occupation, as evidenced by recent protests. Expressing deep concern for their plight, he appealed to the United Nations to intervene in accordance with Security Council resolutions to address the grievances faced by those living under Pakistani administration. As the son of Dr. Karan Singh, the titular king of undivided Jammu and Kashmir, and the grandson of Maharaja Hari Singh ji, Singh's appeal carries significant weight. He stressed the importance of upholding the fundamental rights of all inhabitants of Jammu and Kashmir, regardless of their administrative status, urging the international community to take concrete steps to ameliorate their situation. |
