Forum of recognized colleges addresses key challenges faced by B.Ed. Colleges | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 23: An emergency meeting of the Forum of Recognized Colleges Force was convened today in Jammu to address the pressing issues confronting the B.Ed. colleges affiliated with Jammu University. Chaired by S. Harbans Singh, Former Minister and President of the Forum, the meeting saw the participation of a majority of members, including Chairpersons of B.Ed. colleges and their Principals. The meeting served as a platform to deliberate on various challenges encountered in the day-to-day operations of these colleges. Among the issues discussed were the irregular and delayed admission processes, a significant decline in the number of admission seekers, and the increased involvement of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) following the transition of our state to the status of Union Territory. Participants also addressed the relationship between the colleges and Jammu University, particularly through the Director Colleges Development Council (DCDC). Concerns were raised regarding the perceived lack of support and patronage from university authorities despite substantial contributions made by the colleges, amounting to approximately Rs. 5000 per student annually. There was a shared sentiment among members that university authorities are actively working to discourage the management of B.Ed. colleges, potentially leading to their closure. In light of these challenges, the Forum urged the Vice Chancellor of Jammu University to intervene personally to safeguard the survival of B.Ed. colleges. Members emphasized the superior infrastructure and faculty of these colleges compared to counterparts in other states, highlighting the need for a rational and practical approach from university authorities. With optimism, members expressed hope that the university would adopt measures conducive to the sustainable functioning of B.Ed. colleges, considering the difficulties they currently face due to a sharp decline in student intake and stringent regulations imposed by the NCTE. The Forum remains committed to advocating for the interests of B.Ed. colleges and looks forward to constructive dialogue and cooperation with Jammu University to address these challenges effectively. |
