Early Times Report BASOHLI, Apr 12: In a pioneering initiative aimed at harnessing technological advancements for the preservation and promotion of linguistic heritage, the Department of Dogri at Govt Degree College Basohli, under the esteemed patronage of Dr. Nidhi Kotwal, Principal of GDC Basohli, organized a transformative three-day workshop on Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) Pilot for Dogri. This initiative was conducted under the auspices of the research Project AI4 Bharat, in collaboration with the college, from April 10th to April 12th, 2024. The program commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Vaishno Devi, Head of the Department of Dogri, extending heartfelt greetings to all attendees, including the ASR team members Dr. Preeti Dubey, Navidika Mishra, Rakesh Kumar, Sunil Kumar, as well as the esteemed faculty members of the college. Expressing gratitude and appreciation, Dr. Nidhi Kotwal, the patron and chief guest of the event, lauded the collaborative efforts towards contributing to the AI4 Bharat project. She commended Dr. Preeti Dubey and her team, along with the Department of Dogri and other faculty members, for their dedicated efforts and commitment. Dr. Preeti Dubey elucidated the multifaceted dimensions of the Dogri segment of the AI4 Bharat project, outlining plans to collect approximately 500 samples encompassing various tones, accents, and dialectical variations of Dogri from Kathua district and beyond. This extensive collection aims to encapsulate the richness and diversity of spoken Dogri, facilitating the development of localized IT software and AI projects for broader societal benefit. In a gracious conclusion to the event, Dr. Anu Sharma from the Department of Dogri extended a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the collective efforts and support extended by individuals such as Dr. Shivali Kapoor, PTI Parveen Singh, PTI Roshan Sharma, Dr. Sushil Kumar, and Prof. Vishal Sharma. The workshop not only underscored the commitment of Govt Degree College Basohli towards technological innovation and linguistic preservation but also heralded a significant step forward in leveraging AI technology for the empowerment and enrichment of regional languages like Dogri. |
