Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 27: Family members of a man who committed a suicide on Friday evening have alleged that the victim took such a drastic step due to harassment by a police officer.
Rajesh Kumar, of Janipur, tragically ended his life sparking outrage and protests within the community. Allegations have surfaced suggesting that Rajesh Kumar took this drastic step following alleged misconduct by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Janipur and subsequent harassment.
Family members of Kumar accused the SHO of ill treating Rajesh and his wife. They claimed that the SHO subjected Rajesh to humiliation, threatening to pose him as a history-sheeter in the police records.
“The SHO's misconduct escalated to the point where Rajesh felt helpless and ashamed,” alleged his family members.
Before taking his own life, Rajesh Kumar reportedly recorded a video and left behind a suicide note detailing the circumstances that drove him to this extreme step. He allegedly instructed his wife to leave the house for 15 minutes before committing suicide.
The video clip, which the deceased had shot before taking the extreme step, also went viral, claiming that he was fed up with his life as the police were harassing him even though he was acquitted by a court of law in a “false case” registered against him more than 19 years ago.
Further investigation into Rajesh's case revealed that he had purchased a bike 20 years ago, which was later reportedly a stolen bike. Despite being cleared of any involvement in the theft two decades ago, Rajesh was recently summoned to the police station by the SHO, who allegedly threatened him with adverse actions.
Janipur Road was blocked as family members. They demanded accountability and appropriate action against those responsible for Rajesh's distress.
SDPO West Zaheer Abbas while talking to Early Times assured thorough investigation into the allegations against the SHO. “The SHO of Janipur has been transferred, and a new SHO has been appointed in response to the situation,” he added.
