Early Times Report

Jammu, May 21: With only four days left for the polling on the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief and candidate on this Parliamentary segment Mehbooba Mufti gave a message to the Congress party against openly supporting her arch-rival National Conference.
Although Mehbooba Mufti has not sought support from the grand old party, she reiterated her commitment to remain in INDIA bloc.
Despite the Congress party’s support for her arch-rival, the National Conference (NC), Mehbooba Mufti remains steadfast in her commitment to the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc. The ongoing triangular contest in the Anantnag-Rajouri seat has intensified the political landscape.
Following the completion of polling in two out of three Parliamentary constituencies in the Kashmir Valley, Mehbooba Muftireaffirmed her party’s affiliation with the INDIA bloc. She attributed this allegiance to both her ideological convictions and the Congress party’s efforts to protect the Constitution.
Mehbooba Mufti raised concerns about the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its affiliated organizations, accusing them of attempting to alter the country’s constitution. She emphasized the critical role the constitution plays as the foundation of the nation, safeguarding citi

ens’ rights. Despite public statements to the contrary, the BJP’s agenda includes dismantling the reservation system for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes.
Interestingly, while Mehbooba Mufti remains committed to strengthening the INDIA bloc, the Congress party has chosen to support the National Conference in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. This decision comes despite the PDP fielding candidates in the Anantnag-Rajouri, Srinagar, and Baramulla Parliamentary constituencies.
During the recent Lok Sabha elections, Congress leaders openly campaigned for National Conference candidates in Srinagar and Baramulla. Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah represents the National Conference in the Baramulla seat, where the PDP has nominated Fayaz Mir. Additionally, the Congress is backing Mian Altaf, the National Conference candidate, in the Anantnag-Rajouri seat, where Mehbooba Mufti herself is contesting.
In a charged political atmosphere, Mehbooba Mufti accused the National Conference of engaging in “Fatwa politics” on the Anantnag-Rajouri seat. She highlighted instances where voters faced threats of damnation if they did not support a specific candidate. Such tactics, including posthumous consequences and health risks, have raised concerns and drawn criticism during the election campaign.
