Early Times Report JAMMU, May 22: On May 22, 2024, Department of Botany, Government Degree College Ramban, in collaboration with the Innovation and Incubation Cell, GDC Ramban, came together to commemorate International Biodiversity Day under the patornship of Principal, Prof. Archana Kaul. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity conservation and promote action towards its preservation. This year's celebration centered around the theme "Be part of the Plan," which calls for collective action to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity by supporting the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, also known as the Biodiversity Plan. The theme emphasizes the role of governments, indigenous peoples, local communities, non-governmental organizations, businesses, and individuals in contributing to biodiversity conservation efforts. The event began with a lecture delivered by Prof. Jawaid Sarver, Head of the Botany Department, who shed light on the significance of the Biodiversity Plan and urged students to actively participate in conservation initiatives. Following the lecture, a field visit to the Kundi Village Ramban was organized, providing students with practical insights into local biodiversity. Accompanied by Prof. Ajay Kumar, HOD EVS, Dr. Kiran Parasher, and Dr. Arif Majid, the students explored the diverse flora and fauna of the village ecosystem, deepening their understanding of biodiversity conservation. As a symbolic gesture of commitment to environmental stewardship, Principal of GDC Ramban, Prof. Archana Kaul, planted a rare plant species collected from the Kundi Village Ramban during the field visit in the college campus and also stated that, the celebration of International Biodiversity Day underscores our shared responsibility to protect and preserve the Earth's rich biodiversity. Through education, awareness, and community engagement, we can inspire positive change and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
