Early Times Report SAMBA, May 22: Krishi Vigyan Samba, organized one day Officers training programme on "Weed Management in Kharif crops" under the leadership of Professor B.N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu and under the able guidance of Prof. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension,. The programme was attended by twenty two officers from Department of Agriculture, Samba. The programme was started with the inaugural address by Prof. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head, KVK Samba in which he gave a brief outline of the programme in order to lower down the menace of weeds. During the programme, he discussed in details about the importance of weed management in Kharif crops. He also urged upon the officers to make comprehensive programme in the district in order to eradicate the weeds. Dr. Jai Kumar, Chief Scientist, Agronomy, ACRA Dhiansar and Expert in weed management gave his detailed lecture on Integrated weed Management strategy for the Kharif crops. He discussed in length and breadth about the judicious use of herbicides in weed management. He also requested the participants to remain in touch with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba for any technical knowhow for the benefit of the farmers. Dr. Amit Mahajan, Farm Manager as well as Agronomist, KVK Samba discussed in detail about the different weed control methods in Paddy, Maize, Pulses and Sesamum. He emphasized about the different herbicides which are ecofriendly. Dr. A.K Sinha Chief Scientist, Agri. Engg. discuss about the important hand tools used for the eradication of weeds in different crops grown in Distt. Samba. Dr. Saurav Gupta Sr. Scientist, Entomology also briefed the officers about the different IPM Strategies against major insect pests of kharif crops and their management. He also extended the vote of thanks. |
