Early Times Report LEH, May 31: The NTCP Cell of the Health Department in Leh celebrated World No Tobacco Day at Lamdon Model Senior Secondary School. The event started with a rally by students to raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco use. State Nodal Officer for NCD Leh, Dr. Rinchen Angmo; inaugurated the event with a speech highlighting the high prevalence of tobacco use among youth and its severe health consequences, including various cancers and over one crore deaths annually. Physician, SNM Leh, Dr. Tashi Thinlas; addressed the gathering, warning of the psychological and physical health problems from early tobacco use, such as poisoning, cancer, and heart disease. The Principal of Lamdon Model Senior Secondary School, Kunzes Angmo also spoke on the hazardous health impacts of tobacco. Students performed an informative skit on the consequences of tobacco use, further reinforcing the message. Chief guest, SSP Leh District Shruti Arora, IPS, spoke about the importance of tackling addiction and emphasized that quitting must come from individuals, especially during their formative years. She commended the students for their confidence and performance in the skit. District Consultant NTCP, Dr.Stanzin Jamyang, concluded the event with a Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants and attendees.
