Leh-Kargil divide widens after Lok Sabha polls result
6/7/2024 10:40:30 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 7: Within three days after the declaration of the result of the Ladakh Lok Sabha seat, serious differences have cropped up among agitating groups of Ladakh after statements of leaders from Kargil. The senior member of the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) Sajad Kargili said that the victory of the rebel Independent candidate Haji Hanfee Jan was a referendum against the decision of the Union Government to abrogate Article 370 and granting of Union Territory status to Ladakh.
“Earlier people of Ladakh rejected the August 5, 2019 decision in the Kargil Council elections but now with the overwhelming majority the people of Ladakh have rejected the same in the Parliament elections”, Kargili said and warned that if the sixth schedule and statehood would not be granted to Ladakh people of this region would raise the demand of rejoining into Jammu and Kashmir.
Guarded silence maintained by senior leaders of the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) about the statement of Sajad Kargili raised doubt among their counterparts in Leh.

Guarded silence maintained by senior leaders of the KDA about the statement of Sajad Kargili raised doubt among their counterparts in Leh.
The KDA needs to clarify whether it supports Sajjad Kargili’s views, which are unacceptable to the people of Leh.
Any unilateral decision by the KDA could seriously impact its alliance with the Leh Apex Body.

“If he wants to join Kashmir, he should go. Who is stopping him? We don’t endorse his views. The KDA needs to clarify whether it supports Sajjad Kargili’s views, which are unacceptable to the people of Leh. Any unilateral decision by the KDA could seriously impact its alliance with the Leh Apex Body.
We are committed to moving forward collectively on the four-point agenda, but any deviation from it is unacceptable to us”, veteran leader and newly elected president of the Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) Chering Dorjay said.
Dorjay, a former minister in the PDP-BJP government, is a member of the Leh Apex Body which is jointly agitating with the KDA.
Reacting to the statement of Kargili, Tsering Stobdan asked the people not to take the statement seriously.
“Request to all readers that please don’t take this person seriously as whatever he says is his personal thought or opinion. I, as a Ladakhi, don’t agree with his agenda of the reunification of Ladakh and J&K and Sajjad Kargili please don’t speak on behalf of the whole of Ladakh”, Stobdan said.
