Early Times Report JAMMU, June 14: Indian Red Cross Society, J&K-UT organized a significant blood donation camp on the eve of "World Blood Donor Day", observed annually on 14th June in the memory of Karl Landsteiner (1868-1943), an Austrian biologist and physician, considered to be the "founder" of modern blood transfusion. The event took place at Red Cross Bhawan, Kachi Chawni, Jammu in collaboration with Blood Transfusion Department, Govt. Medical college Hospital, Jammu and witnessed enthusiastic participation from employees of State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, J&K Bank Pvt. Ltd., Dabur India Ltd., Crystal Crop Protection Ltd., Sidco Industries Complex, Bari Brahmana, Jammu and Red Cross volunteers. World Blood Donor Day is a global initiative celebrated to raise awareness about the importance of safe blood and blood bio-products and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood. This year's theme, "20 years of celebrating giving: Thank you blood donors," commemorates the milestone of the 20th anniversary and the profound impact of blood donation on the lives of patients and donors. The day serves as an opportunity to express gratitude to blood plasma, and platelet donors in the world for their lifesaving donations. Moreover, it calls for action, motivating more individuals to join the global movement of blood donation. The camp was inaugurated by Rohit Kahjuria, General Secretary, IRCS J&K-UT and Dr.Rajat Kumar, Blood Bank, GMCH, Jammu. Rohit Khajuria highlighted the critical role of blood donation in saving lives and improving health. "Blood donation is a noble act that can make a significant difference in the lives of those in need. Our collective efforts today can ensure a supply of blood and help save countless lives," he stated. The camp saw an overwhelming response from donors of various age groups, including professionals of different institutions, Red Cross Volunteers, etc. Comprehensive health screenings were conducted to ensure the safety and well-being of all donors. Refreshments and certificates of appreciation were provided to all participants as a token of gratitude. In the end, Rohit Khajuria thanked all the voluntary donors and the team of Medical College. "The selfless act of donating blood is crucial in saving lives, especially during emergencies. We are grateful to all those who came forward to donate today," he said. Likewise, to promote the importance of blood donation and encourage community participation, the IRCS, J&K also organized a comprehensive Blood Donation Awareness Program at Emm Tiny Tots School, Raina Wari, Srinagar for their students and faculty. Dr. Shalinder Kaur, delivered an insightful presentation on the critical need for regular blood donations. She highlighted how each donation can save multiple lives and addressed common myths and misconceptions about blood donation. The camp was organized under the supervision of Sh. G.A.
