Undeterred by terror attacks, Centre asks J&K admin to conduct Assembly polls before Sep 30

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 14: Undeterred by the recent terror attacks in Jammu province, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre has decided to continue with the process of conducting maiden assembly elections in the Union Territory.
While the central leadership of the BJP has asked the local unit to start preparations for the Assembly polls, authorities at the higher level have already conveyed the message to the J&K administration about the conduct of polls before September 30.
Sources said that participation of people in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir has encouraged the Union Government to go for Assembly polls.
“People’s overwhelming participation in the Parliament elections has reposed common masses’ faith in the democracy and democratic institutions of the country so the Union Government wants to build up on this positive atmosphere”, sources said and added that preparations for Assembly elections will go simultaneously with this year’s Amarnath Yatra.

The 2024 General Election in J&K was historic. It marked the first major electoral process since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
ar’s Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2024 will begin on 29th June 2024 and conclude on 19th August 2024. After completion of the this year’s Yatra authorities have one month and ten days left to conduct the elections.
The recent terror attacks in the Jammu region has raised concerns. Traditionally, such attacks were concentrated in the Kashmir valley, but the shift to the Jammu side of Pir Panjal indicates a strategic change in tactics.
Reports said that the strikes in Reasi, Doda, and Kathua appear calculated to convey a political message and create chaos. Their timing, coinciding with the installation of the new government at the Centre, aims to undermine the narrative of stability and normalcy in the region. The intention seems to be disrupting the democratic process, especially as the Election Commission of India prepares for Assembly elections.
Despite these actions fostering fear and uncertainty, the 2024 General Election in J&K was historic. It marked the first major electoral process since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
