Early Times Report RS PURA, June 26: The international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking or World drug day, is marked on 26 June every year to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse. To commemorate the day, Drud De-addiction Committee of GDC R.S.Pura organized an awareness campaign based on the theme,"The evidence is clear: invest in prevention,". More than 30 students of the college including faculty members were participated in the event with great zeal, enthusiasm and fervor. In this connection a pledge was taken by students followed by Poster Making Competition in order to aware the public about drug abuse.Thereafter a motivational Lecture was also deleivered by Prof Neelam Kumari with the aim to raise awareness about the importance of treating people who use drugs with respect and empathy, providing evidence- based, voluntary services for all, offering alternatives to punishment, prioritizing prevention and leading with compassion. The event was organized under the able guidance of Prof.(Dr)Preetpal Kour, Principal of the College. She apprised the students that the day observe as an axpression of it's determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal if an international society free of drug abuse. She further added that people who use drugs can often face significant barriers to treatment and even health services for infectious diseases like HIV/ AIDS and hepatitis. Meanwhile, drug traffickers continue to prey on drug users, rapidly escalating the production of dangerous highly addictive synthetic drugs. The entire programme was coordinated by Prof. Neelam Kumari, Convener Drug De-addiction Committee. The staff members who make the event successfull were Dr. Neena Gupta, Prof. Shifali Abrol, Prof. Anju Kumari,Dr.Meeshu Pandita, Prof Shelly Kalsi and Dr.Sunil Kumar Mangoch. |
