Battered PDP starts preparations to go alone in Assembly elections
6/26/2024 10:56:42 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 26: Notwithstanding efforts of the Congress leadership to set up a grand alliance of all non-BJP parties in the coming Assembly elections in J&K, the battered Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) is preparing to go alone in the forthcoming Assembly polls.
Sources said the top leadership of the PDP has directed its leaders to prepare panels of potential candidates for the coming Assembly elections in all the 90 seats of Jammu and Kashmir.
“As the Congress leadership has betrayed PDP during the Lok Sabha elections by giving importance to the National Conference, the leadership of the party (PDP) has decided not to be involved in any dialogue of seat sharing with any other party”, sources said and added that message of fighting elections alone has already been conveyed to all district presidents.
Sources said that PDP’s leaders from zone presidents to district presidents have also cautioned the leadership against entering into an alliance with any other party.

Sources said that PDP leadership was expecting that Congress would adopt a middle path during the Lok Sabha elections by not openly campaigning for the National Conference candidates on three Parliamentary seats of Kashmir Valley.
“PDP leadership is annoyed over the way J&K Congress leadership aggressively campaigned against party candidates”, sources said.
Important to mention here that the Jammu unit of PDP on Saturday convened a meeting to chalk out its action plan for the coming Assembly polls in J&K.
The meeting, chaired by PDP vice-president Abdul Hameed Choudhary at Gandhi Nagar party headquarters, was primarily convened to gear up and strengthen the party cadres in the Jammu region ahead of the assembly elections.
The meeting discussed in detail the party's preparations for the upcoming assembly elections and the action plan to strengthen the party at the grassroots level across the Jammu region.
