Early Times Report JAMMU, June 27: A media workshop titled "Mini Vartalap" on three new groundbreaking criminal laws-Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA)-was organized by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) in Jammu today. The event, held at the Press Club of Jammu, aimed to raise awareness and highlight the key features of these transformative legislations. Superintendent of Police (North), Jammu, Shri Shivam Siddharth, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, described the new laws as a watershed moment in the history of India's criminal justice delivery. "It will be a new dawn when these laws, based on Indian thinking and enshrined in the principles of justice, impartiality, and equality, are implemented on 1st July," said Shri Siddharth. He emphasized that the new laws reflect the government's commitment to delivering justice rather than merely administering punishment. He noted that the laws are citizen-centric, designed to minimize inconvenience to citizens and complainants seeking justice. "For instance, the system of zero FIRs and e-FIRs has been institutionalized in the Acts themselves," he explained. Advocate Ranjit Singh Jamwal, the Guest of Honour, highlighted the stringent measures the new laws introduce to combat crimes against women and the rising incidence of cyber-crimes. "Offences such as mob lynching and gang-rape are now more thoroughly addressed in the new legislations," he informed. Jamwal added that the laws have been crafted with citizens' aspirations in mind. Earlier, Shri Ghulam Abbas, Director of PIB/CBC, Jammu, welcomed attendees and explained the rationale behind the introduction of the three legislations. He urged the media to support government efforts in raising public awareness about the new laws and promoting the eSakshya (e-evidence) app, a mobile application designed to assist police in recording scenes of crime, searches, and seizures. Shri Zakir Nazeer, Media and Communication Officer, PIB, Jammu, delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the new legislations, urging the media to inform the public about the changes. The event featured an engaging Q&A session, allowing attendees to interact with the speakers, clarify doubts, and gain deeper insights into the new laws. Approximately 40 media persons and nearly 10 interns from Jammu University attended the Vartalap. Field Publicity Officer, CBC, Kathua Camp Jammu, Shri Rajesh Sharma, delivered the formal vote of thanks, while Ms. Alina Shapoo, an intern with PIB, Jammu, moderated the program. |
