Training on entrepreneurship opportunities in Biotechnology gets underway at SKUAST

JAMMU, July 2: One week training programme on Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Biotechnology commenced at Institute of Biotechnology SKUAST-Jammu. Prof. B.N. Triptahi, Vice-Chancellor was the chief guest in the inaugural session. Prof. Tripathi in his inaugural address remarked that Agri-Food systems and Animal Biotechnology present vast opportunities for biotechnologists. The Vice Chancellor laid stress on trainees to develop business skills and mind set as entrepreneurs. Prof. Tripathi delved on identification of specific areas for exceling, importance of marketing research, team work, professional networking, competitive marketing, updating knowledge and technologies, rules and regulations of the business, etc. The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the role of industrial internships for exposure to realistic working environment of corporate sectors, as well as for job opportunities. Feasibility of the ventures and attracting grants for establishing ventures were the other areas which Prof. Tripathi emphasized.
Prof. Rajinder Peshin, Director Education presented a detail account of Agri-biotechnology based start- ups and ventures; and their evolution into biotech based companies. Prof. R.K. Salgotra, Director Institute of Biotechnology welcomed the dignitaries and presented an outline of the training programme being organized from 2-8 July, 2024. Prof. Salgotra informed that experts from IIM, Jammu, IIIM (CSIR)-Jammu, National Institute of Plant Biotechnology, New-Delhi; Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana; SMVDU, Katra; successful biotech entrepreneurs shall be deliberating during the training programme. Prof. Salgotra further informed that training is being organized under funding from NAHEP-IDP project operational at SKUAST-Jammu. Present on the occasion were Prof. SHE Rizvi, Dean Faculty of Basic Sciences, Prof. Vikas Sharma, Head, Division of Soil Science and Principal Investigator, NAHEP-IDP project, faculty members and students of Institute of Biotechnology.
Dr. Niti Shekhar from Division of Strategy, Busines Policy & Enterpreneurship, IIM, Jammu; Dr. Mohd. Jamal Dar, Senior Principal Scintist, Division of Fermentation and Microbial Biotechnology, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu delivered expert lectures on first day of training programme. Dr. Manmohan Sharma, Professor and Dr. Susheel Sharma, Associate Professor are organizing the training as conveners and co-conveners, respectively.
