Early Times Report JAMMU, July 2: A delegation of Punjabi students and scholars met with the Director of the School Education Department in Jammu to address concerns over the non-advertisement of contractual lecturer positions for Punjabi in Higher Secondary Schools for the 2024-25 academic year. The delegation expressed their dissatisfaction with the recent notice (No. 03DSEJ of 2024, dated 02-06-2024), which failed to include any positions for Punjabi lecturers. They emphasized that Punjabi, being a prominent language in Jammu and Kashmir and the mother tongue of many native speakers, deserves better representation in educational institutions. Highlighting the critical need for advertising these contractual posts, the delegation stressed the importance of ensuring uninterrupted education for students and maintaining high academic standards in higher secondary education. They pointed out that timely recruitment is essential to address the shortage of teaching staff in the Punjabi subject. Additionally, the delegation advocated for the introduction of Punjabi as a subject in all higher secondary schools across the Jammu division. They argued that such steps are necessary to promote the Punjabi language, provide opportunities for qualified Punjabi aspirants, and cater to the educational needs of Punjabi-speaking students in Jammu. The memorandum was submitted by a group including Dr. Rajveer Singh, Dr. Harsimran Singh, Dr. Harpreet Kour, Prabjot Kour, Monika, Gurpreet Kour, Charanjeet Singh, Harpreet Kour, Seeta, Charanjeet Singh, Jagmeet Kour, and Malkeet Kour. |
