Early Times Report

Jammu, July 3: After inclusion of Jagat Prakash Nadda in the new Council of Ministers of the NDA government indicates that the BJP is all set for an overhaul. After all, JP Nadda has been the party’s chief since January 2020.
As the party is going to replace JP Nadda with a new national president, the BJP is also going to change the incumbent president of the J&K unit of the party, Ravinder Raina whose tenure was completed in January 2023 but was given an extension due to the Lok Sabha elections.
As per constitution of the BJP new national president of the party would be elected after completion of elections at different state units.
For the last six years, Ravinder Raina has been heading the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the party. Under his leadership party contested two Lok Sabha elections.
The incumbent president, Ravinder Raina, who was nominated as chief of the erstwhile state of J&K on May 14, 2018, has not completed his tenure as ‘elected’ president. Raina had replaced Sat Sharma- who was inducted in the council of ministers headed by then chief m

Under Raina’s leadership, BJP had retained its tally of winning three Lok Sabha seats in the Parliament elections in 2019 Lok Sabha but BJP has received a setback in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as Congress retrieved its lost ground in many parts of Jammu province, especially in Hindu majority pockets of Jammu district.
BJP has retained both the Lok Sabha seats but the Congress gave tough fight to the party.
Sources said that over a dozen leaders have been staking their claims on the post of the J&K BJP president but the picture is yet not clear because the party has not started the process of conducting elections of the state president.

Like J P Nadda, Ravinder Raina was also given an extension to head the party till the Lok Sabha elections.
Nadda became a full-time president. In January this year, his term as president expired. However, he was given a six-month extension to oversee the Lok Sabha elections, and his term ends in June.
