Jammu, July 7: BJP national president and Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Sunday asked the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the party to initiate the process of shortlisting potential candidates for the maiden Assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. During the Jammu and Kashmir BJP’s Core Group meeting, Nadda made it clear that the party would aggressively contest the coming Assembly elections with a target of “Mission -50” to form its own government in the Union Territory. “National president cautioned the local leadership against adopting the causal or non-serious approach in shortlisting candidates”, a source in the party said, adding, “Despite retaining both the Lok Sabha seats of Jammu province, BJP high-command is not happy with Congress’s performance on some seats of Jammu district”. Sources said that during the Core-Group meeting, the BJP national president made it clear that the party would fight Assembly elections very seriously to expose dynastic political parties of J&K. “The national president made it clear that the BJP would fight elections on the majority of Assembly seats”, sources said. Important to mention here that BJP’s central leadership has already conducted two surveys through private agencies for the selection of candidates for Assembly elections in J&K. These surveys were conducted before the Lok Sabha elections and reports of these surveys have already been submitted to party’s high-command. Nadda chaired a meeting of Jammu-Kashmir BJP Core Group members. BJP's National General Secretary and J&K affairs in-charge Tarun Chugh, co-in-charge Ashish Sood, and top BJP leaders including Dr Jitendra Singh, Ravinder Raina, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Kavinder Gupta, Dr Nirmal Singh, Ashok Koul, Devender Singh Rana and others attended the meeting. On Saturday evening, JP Nadda chaired a closed-door meeting with some BJP leaders. He also held one-on-one talks individually with J&K BJP leaders. Sources say the party's strategy for the forthcoming Assembly polls and organizational matters were discussed in the meeting. Earlier on Saturday, JP Nadda attended the concluding session of J&K BJP Executive meeting and also addressed it. |
