Jammu, July 8: Observing that they were ‘betrayed’ by the leaders of the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) in the just concluded Parliamentary elections, leaders of the Leh Apex Body (LAB) have maintained a guarded silence over demand of the Kargil leaders to resume dialogue with the Union Government. Highly placed sources said that leaders of LAB observed they were betrayed by their counterparts in Kargil by openly supporting the rebel National Conference leader Haji Haneefa Jan on the Ladakh Parliamentary seat. “After the victory of the Haji Haneefa Jan, some active members of the KDA issued highly ‘provocative’ statements especially the demand of merging Ladakh again with the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir”, sources said and added that a meeting of a senior KDA leader with Hurriyat Conference chairperson Mirwaiz Omar Farooq has further widened differences between Leh and Kargil. Important to mention here that the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) has called on the Union government to resume dialogue with local leaders. The KDA, led by Co-Chairmen Qamar Ali Akhone and Haji Asgar Ali Karbalaie, has proposed a four-point agenda, including the demand for full-fledged statehood for the Union Territory. Highlighting ongoing concerns about governance and representation in the region, the KDA emphasized the urgency of resuming dialogue. “This demand pertains to the four-point agenda that has been placed before the government through the High Powered Committee (HPC) constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA),” the KDA stated. The KDA urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to reconvene the HPC and restart discussions with local leaders of Ladakh as soon as possible. “The KDA remains committed to working collaboratively with the government to ensure that the legitimate and genuine demands of the people of Ladakh are met,” the statement added. |
