Jammu, Aug 3: Former Director General Jammu & Kashmir Police and a life member of the Central Govt. Pensioners’ Welfare Association (CGPWA), Dr Ashok Bhan today called upon the youth to keep the country first always in their life and dedicate themselves to the welfare of the people. He told them that “success does not come from the sky, it is in their efforts and every morning is another opportunity to prove yourselves.” aegis Delivering a Talk on “Country comes First, Always, and Every time” to the inmates of the BALGRAN, a Shelter Home for destitute students here today under the aegis of the CGPWA, Dr Bhan asked the students to contribute, at least, in respect five important issues of the community. He listed these five subjects as Swachhta, Environmental Protection, Social Media, Fraternity and Punctuality and asked them to inculcate them in their lives. Explaining each of these issues, he said that cleanliness is the purity of life and thoughts and teachers should help them in inculcating it in students by becoming motivators. Contribution in Environmental protection can be made by taking up plantation, checking pollution and disuse of plastic. Cautioning against misuse of Social Media as there is anonymity in it, he said that it is a waste of time and youth must avoid trolling. This technology has the advantages also, provided it is used constructively and positively. Fraternity is an important issue which even the Preamble of our Constitution enjoined upon all Indians for ‘bhaichara’ which is the basis of our national strength and everyone must promote it at every cost. Punctuality is the fifth most important habit which youth must imbibe in themselves to save their own precious time as also others and consequently of the nation. The Talk is a part of the laudable initiative which CGPWA launched last year to use the available rich human resource in the shape of senior former civil servants, to upgrade the knowledge of the destitute children and motivate them for better and productive life ahead. Dr Bhan recalled that by constitutional amendment, ten fundamental duties were incorporated in Part 4A of the constitution. While fundamental rights are always talked about, more emphasis is needed on these duties, which include duty cast on a parent or guardian to provide opportunities for education to his child between six to fourteen years of age. Proper education to children would make our youth responsible, secular minded and progressive in outlook. In his 45-minute talk, he took the audience to nostalgic travel with him from his impression age of childhood and recalled how songs of past films had motivational impact. These included song of 1954 popular patriotic movie, Jagriti- “Hum Laye Hain Toofan Se Kashti Nikal Ke” , song of 1960 film Hum Hindustani- Chhodo kal Ki Baatein, Kal ki baat purani, naye dr main likhen gaye nai kahani and Lata Mangeshkar’s heart breaking song - aye mere watan ke logon jara aankh bhar lo pani, which created a patriotic environment in India. He specially recalled the stanza of Lata Mangeshkar song- ‘Sikh koi jaat maraatha, koi gurakha koi madaraasi, sarahad pe maranevaala, har veer tha bhaaratavaasi, jo khoon gira parvat par, vo khoon tha hindustaani, Jo Shahid Hue Hein Unki, Zaraa Yaad Karo qurbaani to prove his point. Dr Bhan said in three decade old militancy in J&K, nearly 6000 men in uniform have been martyred including 200 of J&K Police. He said their supreme sacrifice has always to be remembered. He said today we pay our tribute to these Bravehearts. Referring to the title of his talk, “Country comes First, Always, and Every time”, Dr Bhan said that during his visit to Indian Military Academy, Dehradun with his father, who was in the army, he saw an inspiring quote at the entrance of Chetwoode Hall which left indelible imprint on his mind. It says, “The safety, honour and welfare of your country come first, always and every time. The honour, welfare, and comfort of the men you command come next. Your own ease, comfort and safety come last, always and every time.” This is the motto of the officers passing out from the academy. This should be the motto for every youth of our country, he said. Later he interacted with the students and enquired about their choice of career and gave some tips.
