Jammu, Aug 3: In its war against narcotics, Jammu and Kashmir Police started a comprehensive campaign to identify Rohingyas involved in drug trafficking in different parts of Jammu province. Highly placed sources said that special teams have been constituted to keep a watch on the activities of some Rohingyas who have been allegedly involved in selling drugs in some slum areas of Jammu city and its outskirts. Recently a Rohingya refugee at present putting up in the Karyani Talab area on the outskirts of Jammu, with 3 kg of cannabis and it was established during the questioning about the involvement of Rohingyas in drug trafficking and other illegal activities. There is the possibility of a well-knit syndicate of these refugees involved in drug trafficking and other anti-social activities like human trafficking. The Rohingya have been found involved in drug trade. Across Jammu, 25 first information reports (FIRs) have been registered against them for drug-trafficking. The police and intelligence agencies are investigating whether this syndicate is a part of the narco-terrorism active in J&K or not. As per the record of the government, 5,743 Rohingyas were illegally staying in the state. It is yet to be established whether drug trafficking is a means of raising funds for terror activities or not. |
