Jammu, Aug 4: Smelling Assembly polls in the near future, Congress leaders started exposing each other by disclosing alleged financial irregularities during the Bharat Jodo Yatra of 2023. Interestingly over one and a half years have passed since the conclusion of the Bharat Jodo Yatra but alleged scams in the Yatra come out after repeated intervals because some leaders used this issue to undermine some senior leaders who were at the helm of the affairs during that event. Although there is no confirmation, some Congress are publicly stating that the party’s high command initiated an internal inquiry. However, new allegations have surfaced as internal factionalism intensifies. Recently, another scandal involving protocol and related departments has come to light, implicating senior leaders. The high command has discreetly started an internal investigation, as some senior leaders face allegations of misappropriating significant funds sanctioned for the Yatra. During the final phase of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi spent 11 days in Jammu and Kashmir, participating in public meetings, and interactions, and visiting famous temples and shrines. Allegations have now surfaced about senior leaders swindling Yatra funds. Private agencies hired by the Congress party’s protocol department have not been paid, despite funds being sanctioned. Three months post-Yatra, a Haryana-based businessman accused the party of non-payment for branding services in northern states, including J&K. The businessman received payment only after media intervention. Sources claim that funds were controlled by a select group within the party, leaving other leaders and workers unaware of the total funds allocated and utilized. Some leaders who spent their own money are still seeking reimbursement. There are demands for transparency regarding fund utilization during the Yatra’s stay in J&K. The internal inquiry continues as Congress leaders call for accountability and transparency in fund management. |
