Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 13: The Anti-Drugs and Rehabilitation (ADR) Cell and Psychological Counseling Cell of Government Degree College (GDC) Sidhra, in collaboration with faculty members and students, participated in an online program on “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” on August 13, 2024. The event, organized under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), was part of the nationwide campaign led by the Department of Social Welfare, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
The “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” (NMBA) is a flagship mass awareness campaign against drug abuse, launched on August 15, 2020. As it enters its fifth year, the campaign is celebrated under the theme “Viksit Bharat ka Mantra, Bharat ho Nashe se Swatantra.” To mark this milestone, a mass pledge was organized across the country on August 13, 2024, at 11:45 AM, with GDC Sidhra actively participating.
Following the pledge-taking ceremony, the college’s Principal, Dr. G.S. Rakwal, delivered an awareness lecture emphasizing the serious threat posed by drug addiction. He encouraged students to remain steadfast and committed to a drug-free life by making healthy choices for their body and mind.
Prof. Deepa Kak, Convenor of the ADR Cell, interacted with the students, urging them to report any cases of addiction or drug abuse to the ADR Cell, ensuring timely intervention. She emphasized the role of students as Ambassadors of Change, encouraging them to participate in various awareness activities to spread the message against substance abuse to the wider community.
The event was organized by Prof. Deepa Kak with active support from Prof. Shonima Malhotra, Dr. Anshu Gupta, Dr. Rudrika Khajuria (members of the ADR Cell), and Dr. Anu Sharma, Head of the Department of Botany at GDC Sidhra. The entire program was held under the able guidance of the college’s Principal, Dr. G.S. Rakwal.
The event reinforced the college’s commitment to combating the menace of drug addiction and empowering students to contribute positively to the “Nasha Mukt Bharat” initiative.
