BJP finalizes potential candidates | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 18: Although BJP leadership has maintained a guarded silence over candidates for the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the party has reportedly prepared panels of potential nominees. Highly placed sources said that the party has constituted panels of candidates for the majority of the Assembly segments and some of the candidates have been informed about confirmation of their mandates. Sources said that a panel of three candidates for each Assembly segment has been constituted and the same would be forwarded to the BJP high command through the Union Minister G Kishen Reddy, who is election incharge of the party for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. “Final decision on candidates would be taken by the party Parliamentary Board”, sources said and added that names of the candidates would be released phased-wise because the party leadership does not want to take any chance. Sources said that the party leadership has also devised a strategy to keep ticket aspirants in good humours “The panels prepared by the J&K unit of the party would be placed before the central leadership and feedback of the two private agencies hired by the party would also be taken into consideration while finalizing names of the candidates”, sources said and revealed that over 50 percent of the former MLAs and ex-ministers are unlikely to get party mandates. Sources said that BJP’s central leadership would wait for rival parties, especially, the Congress to announce candidates for Assembly seats in the Jammu district where the party has a direct fight with the Grand-old Party. |
