Jammu, Aug 22: Within minutes after meeting with the Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former Chief Minister and president of the National Conference Dr. Farooq Abdullah announced a pre-poll alliance for all 90 assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir. Interestingly despite the announcement of Dr. Farooq Abdullah, no senior Congress leader has endorsed the statement of the NC chief. Addressing the media at his Gupkar residence, JKNC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah said, "Jammu and Kashmir has faced difficult times, but we're hopeful for the restoration of statehood. NC and Congress will fight the elections together to defeat divisive forces." Abdullah announced that the parties will release a mandate list in a phased manner. He also extended an invitation to other parties, saying, "Doors are open to everyone, including PDP." Abdullah revealed that CPI(M) leader MY Tarigami is supporting the alliance, expressing hope that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will also support them, leading to a huge majority victory. However, he emphasized that this coalition will not come at the cost of compromising the interests and respect of Congress workers and leaders. Rahul Gandhi assured the workers, "There won't be a coalition at the cost of Congress workers' and leaders' interest. All of you should remain assured that there will be no compromise on the interests and respect of party workers and leaders."
