In Pir Panchal region, Amit Shah strikes balance between Gujjars, Paharis | Home Minister addresses four rallies in Poonch, Rajouri in one day | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 21: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday struck a balance between Gujjar-Bakerwal and Paharis in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri. Conducting a whirlwind tour of this mountainous belt by addressing four rallies at Surankote, Mendhar, Thanamand, and Rajouri in the Pir Panchal region in support of party candidates. Realizing that the support of both Gujjar-Bakerwals and Paharis are must to win elections in this belt, the Home Minister reminded that he had promised to the Gujjar and Bakerwals that their reservation would remain intact while granting Scheduled Tribe status to the Pahari-speaking people. “When we moved a resolution to grant Scheduled Tribe status to the Pahari-speaking people, Choudhary Talib Hussain met me in Delhi. I promised that reservations of Gujjar and Bakerwals would not be touched”, he recalled and pointed out that the BJP government has fulfilled its promise of not touching the reservation of Gujjars and Bakewals. Earlier Amit Shah delivered a strong critique of National Conference (NC) president Dr. Farooq Abdullah, accusing him of fostering terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at a large gathering in Mendhar, near the Line of Control (LoC), Shah attributed the peace along Jammu’s borders to Pakistan’s fear of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decisive leadership. He warned that any hostile act from Pakistan, such as firing a single bullet, would be met with an overwhelming artillery response. Shah began by addressing the long-standing issue of terrorism in the region since 1990, directly blaming Dr. Farooq Abdullah for nurturing this environment of violence. He accused Dr. Abdullah of promoting terrorism and systematically depriving the Pahari, Gujjar, and Bakerwal communities of their rightful opportunities. Shah emphasized that the current tranquility along the borders, including the Mendhar region, was due to Pakistan’s fear of Modi’s strong policies. “If Pakistan dares to fire even a single bullet, it will be answered with an artillery shell,” Shah reiterated, highlighting the government’s firm stance on cross-border aggression. He contrasted the current situation with the past, where terrorism flourished unchecked, claiming that Dr. Farooq Abdullah played a significant role in creating this volatile environment. Shah accused Dr. Farooq of arming the youth and leading them down a destructive path. In contrast, he stated that the government would recruit Paharis, Gujjars, and Bakerwals into the police and military to defend the region and fight terrorism. Shah also criticized the Abdullah family, challenging both Dr. Farooq and his son, Omar Abdullah. He asserted that the reservations granted to the Paharis, Gujjars, and Bakerwals, which the Abdullah family allegedly opposed, were here to stay. “Even if the father-son duo were to turn themselves upside down, they cannot reverse the reservation for these communities,” Shah declared. He also promised that the BJP would ensure that reservations in promotions are extended to the Paharis. Continuing his offensive, Shah expanded his criticism to include the Muftis and the Gandhis, holding all three political dynasties accountable for the violence and suffering in Jammu and Kashmir. He claimed that these families were responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people in the region and pointed out that under their rule, democratic processes were stifled, with no Panchayat, Block Development Council (BDC), or District Development Council (DDC) elections being held for years. Shah contrasted this with the present, noting that over 30,000 elected representatives from Panchayats, Blocks, and Districts are now actively participating in the democratic process, ensuring the people of Jammu and Kashmir enjoy the benefits of democracy. |
