Lecture to celebrate “Poshan Maah” organized at GDC Sidhra

Jammu, Sept 21: Poshan Abhiyaan is Government of India’s flagship programme to improve nutritional outcomes for children under 6 years of age, pregnant women and lactating mothers. It was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji in the year 2018. Under this programme, September month is designated as “Poshan maah “or “Nutrition month”. This year, 7th Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2024 is being celebrated which will focus on the themes such as Anaemia, Growth Monitoring, Complementary Feeding, Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi, Technology for better Governance, and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.
Addressing the key theme “Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi” a lecture was organized so that students could be informed about the importance of balanced diet in day to day life. Dr. Anu Sharma, Head, Dept. of Botany was the resource person. She first of all discussed in detail about the introduction, objectives and key themes of POSHAN Abhiyaan. After that, she gave a detailed lecture about the importance of nutrition “Poshan” in day to day life. She advised the students to follow balanced diet for healthy life. She also discussed the components of balanced diet and various foods that need to be included to have a balanced diet. She gave the message that both Poshan (Nutrition) and Padhai (Academics) should go hand in hand because healthy mind resides in a healthy body.
Principal of the College Dr. G.S Rakwal also advised the students to follow healthy diet and stay active. He asked them to maintain healthy eating habits and shun processed and junk food.
The program was organised by Dr. Anu Sharma, Convenor Women Development Cell and member NSS Unit with active support and coordination of Prof. Shonima Malhotra, Prof. Pooja Sharma and Dr. Rudrika Khajuria. All the faculty members attended the lecture.
The programme was organised under the able guidance of the worthy Principal of the College Dr. G.S Rakwal.
