2nd Phase: Fates of Omar, Raina, Karra, Bukhari sealed | Assembly Elections | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 25: As the polling for the second phase, comprising 26 constituencies across six districts of Jammu & Kashmir concluded this evening political fates of bigwigs of Jammu and Kashmir were sealed in the EVMs. The fate of political bigwigs including ex-Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina, J&K Congress president Tariq Hamid Karra, J&K Apni Party founder Sayed Altaf Bukhari, veteran leaders of National Conference Ali Mohammad Sagar and Abdul Rahim Rather would be decided in today’s polling. National Conference Vice President and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is contesting from the Ganderbal and Budgam constituencies. Karra is contesting elections from Central Shalteng in central Kashmir, Raina is reseeking his election from the Nowshera assembly segment of Rajouri district, and Bukhari is contesting from Channapora in central and Kashmir. Although all three phases are crucial for mainstream political parties, the second phase will determine the political future of Omar Abdullah, Ravinder Raina, Syed Altaf Bukhari, and Tariq Hamid Karra. After losing the Lok Sabha election from the Baramulla Parliamentary seat, Omar Abdullah is trying his luck on traditional Ganderbal and Budgam assembly segments. Results of these elections on these two segments would decide the future of the National Conference vice president. As far as Ravinder Raina is concerned, he won t NC Vice-President and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is contesting from the Ganderbal and Budgam constituencies. JKPCC chief Tariq Hameed Karra is contesting from Central Shalteng in Srinagar, BJP UT chief Ravinder Raina is reseeking election from the Nowshera assembly segment of Rajouri district, Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari is contesting from Channapora in Srinagar. e 2014 Assembly elections from Nowshera while riding on the Modi wave. This time he is facing a tough fight from his arch-rival Surinder Choudhary, who is now contesting elections as candidate of National Conference. Today’s elections are also very crucial for Syed Altaf Bukhari, who founded the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party in March 2020. After failing to mark the presence of his party in Lok Sabha elections, Bukhari worked assiduously to win the Channapora seat. As far as J&K Congress president Tariq Hameed Karra is concerned, he is fighting the election as head of the Jammu and Kashmir unit. Meanwhile, according ot the Election Commission of India, “In the penultimate phase of the elections to the Jammu-Kashmir Legislative Assembly, voters queued up in long lines at the Polling Stations dotting the picturesque landscape and carried forward the momentum witnessed during Phase-1. Voting across 26 ACs which commenced at 7 AM today was held peacefully without any incidents of violence”. “As of 7 PM, a voter turnout of 54.11% was recorded at the polling stations. The overall voter turnout recorded in these six districts that went for polls in Phase 2 have also surpassed the turnout recorded in Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Phase-1 of the Jammu-Kashmir Assembly elections had also witnessed an encouraging response by voters with a voter turnout of 61.38% at Polling Station across 24 ACs”, the official statement of ECI stated. |
