Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 27: In a bid to enhance electoral awareness and encourage informed voter participation, the Electoral Literacy Club and NSS Unit "Veerangana" of Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, successfully organized the SVEEP (Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation) Quiz Competition. The initiative aimed to educate students about their voting rights and responsibilities. The SVEEP Quiz Competition is part of a larger voter education program designed to spread knowledge about the electoral process, the importance of voting, and citizens' democratic rights. The quiz covered topics such as the history of elections in India, the role of the Election Commission, voter rights, and the importance of active participation in democracy. Three teams participated in the quiz-Liberty, Democratic, and Fraternity-with students from all semesters taking part. Each team consisted of three members. The competition was conducted in multiple rounds, testing the participants' knowledge of electoral practices, rights, and responsibilities. Team Democratic, comprised of Mokshita, Simran, and Amanat, all students of B.Com Semester 3, emerged victorious with the highest score of 40 points. Speaking at the event, Dr. Meeru Abrol, Principal of the college, praised the SVEEP Quiz Competition as a wonderful platform to educate young minds and create a culture of responsible and informed voting. She emphasized, "The future of our democracy lies in the hands of our youth, and initiatives like these are essential in building awareness and fostering a sense of responsibility among citizens." Dr. Preeti Salathia, NSS Program Officer, also highlighted the efforts of the Election Commission of India through SVEEP to increase voter turnout, particularly among first-time voters and underrepresented sections of the population.
