Jammu, Sept 29: As the high-voltage campaign for the third and the last phase of the Assembly elections concluded on Sunday, the stage was set for polling in 40 constituencies in seven districts of Jammu and Kashmir. More than 39.18 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their electoral franchise during the third and last phase of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. Although all political parties utilized all their resources to mobilize support, the stakes of the BJP are very high for the third and final phase of elections on all the 24 Assembly seats of Jammu province. Out of these 24 assembly segments, BJP in the 2014 assembly elections, BJP had won 21. Two seats namely Nagrota and Bishnah were won by the National Conference and Udhampur by Pawan Gupta as Independent. Devender Singh Rana, who won Nagrota as an NC candidate in 2014, is now a BJP candidate in the same seat, Dr Kamal Arora, who won the Bishnah seat has become inactive as the seat has been reserved for the Scheduled Caste. Pawan Gupta is not contesting as BJP Stakes for BJP are very high for the third and final phase of elections on all the 24 Assembly seats of Jammu province. In the 2014 assembly elections, BJP had won 21 out of 24 seats. 2 seats Nagrota and Bishnah were won by the NC and Udhampur by Pawan Gupta as Independent. Devender Singh Rana, who won Nagrota as an NC candidate in 2014, is now a BJP candidate in the same seat. andidate from the Udhampur West seat. This time BJP is working assiduously to win all the 24 seats of the third phase to emerge as a single largest party in the elections. The seriousness of BJP to win all these seats can be gauged from the fact that all top leaders of the party including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and other senior ministers addressed rallies for the last and final phase. While the Prime Minister addressed a mega rally for the 14 candidates of Jammu and Samba districts on Friday, Home Minister Amit Shah addressed four rallies at Chenani, Udhampur, Bani, Jasrota and Marh to mobilize support for party candidates. As far BJP’s arch-rival in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, and Udhampur Congress is concerned, the party has nothing to lose because in 2014 assembly elections the grand-old party failed to win even a single seat from these four districts. As far as the 2024 assembly elections are concerned some new seats namely Ramgarh, Udhampur East, and Jasrota have been created as per recommendations of the Delimitation Commission. |
