Jammu, Oct 6: Two days before the counting of the votes, the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Tariq Hameed Karra sought feedback from the party candidates of Jammu province. Sources said that in the meeting, some Congress candidates strongly rejected the prediction of the exit polls by different agencies and exuded confidence that they would win their respective seats. Sources said that over half a dozen Congress candidates from Jammu, and Samba districts have assured the JKPCC chief that they were in a comfortable position as, according to them, there was a strong undercurrent against BJP in the plains of Jammu where BJP has already suffered a setback in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. Sources said that overconfident Congress candidates claimed that the undercurrent against BJP in the Assembly elections was strong as compared to the Lok Sabha elections so their victory was almost certain. Karra welcomed collaborations with parties and individuals sharing the goal of keeping the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) out of power. “Our doors are open to like-minded parties and individuals who share our vision of a secular, inclusive Jammu and Kashmir,” Karra said. Karra criticized the Lieutenant Governor's nomination of five MLAs, labeling it as poll result rigging and undemocratic. “This move would undermine the democratic process and subvert the people's mandate,” Karra said. |
