Jammu, Oct 7: The results of the much-talked-about elections of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will be declared on Tuesday as the counting of votes begins for all 90 constituencies. A total of 873 candidates including a former Chief Minister are in the fray in this historic election in the political history of Jammu and Kashmir after 1947. The 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections mark a historic moment in the region's political evolution, especially after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. This time BJP is hoping to open its account in the Kashmir Valley as well as in the Muslim majority seats of the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri. In the 2014 Assembly elections, PDP emerged as the single largest party with 28 seats in its kitty followed by BJP with 25 seats. The National Conference won 15 seats and Congress 12. The counting will take place at 20 counting centers established across the region, each of them fortified with a three-tier security system to ensure a smooth and safe process. The first layer of security will be positioned 100 meters from the premises of the counting centers, followed by personnel stationed near the buildings, with the final layer inside the counting halls. The security detail comprises personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), the State Armed Police Force, and district police units, with senior police officers, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)-level officials, overseeing the process. |
