GDCW, Kathua celebrates Karwa Chauth festival | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 19: On 19 oct 2024, the Department of Home Science at Government Degree College for Women (GDCW), Kathua, celebrated the festival of Karwa Chauth with great fervor and cultural pride. The event, organized in the Home Science Lab, aimed at educating students about the significance of this age-old tradition while also instilling a sense of cultural values and respect for Indian heritage Prof. Seema jolly, HOD, Home Science Department inaugurated the event by highlighting the relevance of Karwa Chauth in today's society. She emphasized the importance of balancing tradition with modernity, and how festivals like Karwa Chauth strengthen family bonds and reinforce the cultural fabric of India. The celebration featured various activities like dancing and singing, mehandi competition conducted by the faculty and students of the Home Science Department. Prof. Seema Jolly elaborated on the traditional practices and rituals observed during Karwa Chauth, such as fasting, applying mehndi (henna), and the worship of the Karwa (earthen pot). A special session was dedicated to explaining the scientific and health aspects of fasting. As part of the celebrations, the students displayed their artistic talents through intricate designs, adding vibrancy and creativity to the event.The event was attended by teaching, non tecaching staff along with students. Dr. Babita Mahajan, Dr. Ambica, Dr. Deepshikha, Dr. Renu gupta, Prof. Romika Bhasin, Dr. Surabhi were also present during the event. |
