‘Journalists won’t be punished for criticizing Govt’ | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 19: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday assured the media that no restrictions would be imposed on the press in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a gathering here Omar said, “There will be no strictness, no injustice. Journalists won’t be punished for writing against my government. I know it will be difficult for me to see or read anything against my regime, but in democracy the media cannot be gagged. It has to be allowed to function without any pulls and pressures.” “I am aware of the fact that hurdles have been created in the accreditation and registration of many journalists. They have not received their press cards. These issues will be sorted out soon. Media organizations will be strengthened,” he added. He appealed to the media not to indulge in criticism for the sake of criticism. “I hope the media will highlight the good work also.” |
