SKUAST-J organises Training Programmes | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 19: Division of Vegetables Science, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi organised the farmers training programme on " Entrepreneurship development in hill garlic production" here at Bharakh village in Reasi distt. of J&K under HADP project which was actively attended by a number of farmers of the area. The programme was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Vice Chancellor, Prof.B.N. Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension (DE), Prof.Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. Dr. Satish Kumar, Prof. Division of Vegetables Science, SKUAST-J guided farmers on the commercial cultivation of hill garlic and encourged them for its production of commercial level.He also guided participants on organic turmeric and ginger and said that farmers can fetch more returns by growing them organically. He elaborated the health benefits of hill garlic. He guided farmers on the management of diseases and nutrients in hill garlic. He informed that organic garlic,turmeric and ginger are helpful to improve the health status of human beings by improving the immunity in the body. He added that value addition in garlic, turmeric and ginger can open some new avenues of income and employment in rural areas.He stressed on the organic cultivation of spices for more returns.He informed that organic and natural farming is helpful in the production of safe and quality spices by reducing the cost of cultivation. Earlier Chief Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal warmly welcomed the participants and said that Reasi distt. has an immense potential in the cultivation of hill garlic.He further said that some areas of the distt. are heavily infested with the monkeys menace as monkeys damage the main crops and thus directly affect the farmers income. He narrated that hill garlic, turmeric and ginger are viable alternative crops in monkeys' prone areas as these crops are not damaged by the monkeys.He also guided the farmers on the preparation of organic formulations such as beejamrit, jeevamrit, Panchgavya, fermented butter milk etc. and elaborated their usages to produce the organic hill garlic, turmeric and ginger.He also suggested the farmers to use Ghanjeevamrit, Neemastra, organic fungicides, manures etc. to produce the organic garlic, turmeric and ginger. Agriculture Extension Officers, Deptt. of Agriculture, Reasi, Narinder Kumar Sharma, S.Gurvender Singh and Sudesh Kumar also spoke during the programme and guided farmers on various schemes. Later the fields of progressive farmers were also visited by the officials. By observing the organic ginger and turmeric fields, many new farmers showed keen interest towards the cultivation of these crops. During the programme, progressive farmer S. Gurdev Singh was also present who shared his experiences on spices production with other participants. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr. Banarsi Lal with formal vote of thanks. |
