JK, NSS volunteers attended National Adventure Camp | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 21: NSS volunteers from various colleges of the University of Jammu and other universities in the Jammu region attended 'National Adventure Camp' held at Regional Mountaineering Centre, Swarg Lok, Mcleodganj Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh W.E.F. 11th October to 20th October, 2024 under the sponsorship of Atal Bihari Vijaypee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, Manali and patronage of NSS Coordinator, Dr. Hema Gandotra, Jammu University. The camp consisted of twenty NSS Volunteers (ten females and ten males), each group was served by Dr. Geeta Lakhotra, GDC. Bishnah and Prof. Himanshu Khajuria, GDC, Khour. During the camp volunteers participated and performed various activities that made them professionally proficient and more empowered to respond effectively to emergencies. As per the schedule on the very onset the registration process was conducted and all the volunteers registered themselves in the National Adventure Camp. On 12th October their real training began with lectures on knot making and natural rock climbing. Throughout the camp NSS volunteers learnt the techniques of natural, artificial rock climbing, Rappelling (an art of going down a very steep slope by holding on rope), Jumaring(climbing technology using a rope and clamps to ascend a just rope), Rope River crossing technique. These were taught to volunteers by different instructors of the Regional Mountaineering Centre like Som Dutt, Bridge Lal, Sham, and Santosh. All these techniques were taught and practised under the strict supervision of instructors. The aim of teaching these techniques was to make each volunteer resourceful during disasters, calamities and environmental hazards. These instructors guided the NSS Volunteers under the able administration of Shri. Jatinder Singh, Incharge of RMC, Mcleodganj, Dharamshala. As part of the NSS regimen, volunteers followed a daily schedule that included: wakeup call at 5;00 a.m, 5-6 kilometres morning walk to promote physical and mental well-being and thirty minutes for yoga and meditation. Besides these, NSS volunteers paid the visit to sight -seeing too. These were prayer flag points, ancient churches (St. John Bruce Church in the wilderness), waterfall near market Bakshu, Monasteries and the temple of Dalai Lama. Moreover, a cultural exchange programme was also conducted between the team Orissa and JK. Before the closing the camp fire was lit and students gathered around to dance and unwind, easing the physical exertion of the day. Apart from all, on 18th October, 2024, 22 members NSS Team successfully scaled Triund peak (2,970 metres) showcasing their endurance and teamwork in challenging Himalayan Terrain. On the last Day, during valedictory function special programmes were organized included Dogri traditional dance, a skit on contemporary topics, poetry recitation which left audience mesmerized, Group and couple dance performance from Orissa volunteers, Camp Batch distribution ritual and the entire camp concluded with a ceremony of vote of thanks by Dr. Geeta Lakhotra, NSS. PO. GDC, Bishnah, Jammu and Kashmir. This camp enhanced the mental and physical health of the volunteers and proved very beneficial to them in their future, |
