Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 26: Even as the fact-finding committee has just started its function to ascertain reasons for the historic defeat of the Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir, some senior leaders responsible for the worst-ever debacle are trying to create a narrative that BJP used its resources to win elections.
Highly placed sources said that instead of admitting their blunders, some senior Congress leaders, during the first meeting with the members of the fact-finding committee, argued that BJP used all powers including official machinery and other illegal means to win elections in Jammu province.
Sources said that this narrative of the BJP using illegal means was floated only by those leaders who are responsible for the party’s worst-ever debacle in the elections.
“A senior party who was adamant on contesting election on a particular seat ridiculously alleged that the BJP has manipulated the EVMs”, a party leader, wishing anonymity, told The Early Times. He said that the same leader was responsible for the party’s debacle on two assembly segments.
Sources said that senior leaders, who were at the helm of the affairs in the distribution of tickets, were not ready to accept their mistakes as they were trying to create a false narrative of misuse of official machinery and illegal means by BJP were the main reasons for Congress’s historic debacle in the elections.
Sources said that to save their skins, these leaders are trying to influence members of the fact-finding committee but they failed to give reasons for the victory of Satish Sharma from the Chhamb assembly segment and Dr. Rameshwar Singh from the Bani seat.
“Had BJP misused official machinery or adopted illegal means, Independents would not have emerged victorious from the Chhamb and Bani Assembly segments where the party (BJP) has won in last elections?”, he asked.
