Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 5: Vikram Puri, Chairman of Trade and Industry, National Conference (NC) Jammu has hailed the election of Abdul Rahim Rather, MLA from Charar-e-Sharief, as the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. In a statement issued today, Puri praised Rather's extensive political experience, calling his appointment a "right choice" that promises effective leadership in the House. Puri highlighted that Rather, a senior-most NC leader, has previously served as Finance Minister and is a seven-time MLA, bringing vast knowledge and insight to the role of Speaker. "With his deep understanding of legislative procedures, Mr. Rather will not only ensure the smooth conduct of the House but also serve as a mentor to first-time assembly members," he stated. He noted that Rather's election was unanimous, demonstrating members' confidence in his ability to lead impartially and guide members on legislative decorum and accountability. "Rather's seasoned approach will allow members to voice their viewpoints constructively, holding the executive accountable without disrespecting ministers or officers," Puri added. With 51 first-time members in the Assembly, Puri expressed optimism that Rather's guidance would help them learn the rules and procedures of the House. He commended Rather's advice to ministers and members to thoroughly prepare by reviewing the order of business before each session. Emphasizing the Speaker's focus on creating a harmonious environment, Puri lauded Rather's balanced approach in handling both the treasury and opposition benches. "Rather's leadership will ensure that debates in the House are meaningful, making the sessions more impactful than chaotic," he said. Though Rather has been affiliated with the National Conference for over five decades, Puri noted that as Speaker, he is committed to maintaining impartiality which will enable elected representatives to bank upon him as the custodian of the house and learn a lot from his vast experience. Rather, he said had delivered some historic speeches and now it will be more interesting and educative to listen to him or seeing him conduct the house which was earlier marred by din. |
