Jammu, Nov 11: The BJP high command will convene a meeting with the leaders of J&K after the campaign for Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections is over to devise a strategy for the Union Territory. Highly placed sources in the BJP said that the central leadership has taken serious note of recent developments in the just concluded five-day session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in which a resolution seeking restoration of statehood was passed. Sources said that a group within the BJP has cautioned the central leadership against gameplan of the ruling National Conference to aggressively pursue its agenda by using its majority in the Assembly. “This group has urged the Centre not to take any hasty decision of granting statehood to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir”, a source said, adding, “This group has argued that after getting the statehood the National Conference lead The BJP central leadership has taken serious note of developments in the recently concluded 5-day assembly session in J&K. Notable last week, Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma cautioned that “undemocratic and unconstitutional” action of the ruling party would create hurdles in the restoration of statehood. “Everybody in Jammu and Kashmir has been demanding statehood and the Union Government is seriously considering fulfilling this demand but I am afraid that recent action of the ruling party in the Legislative Assembly would delay restoration of the statehood”, Sunil Sharma said while interacting with media persons. |
