Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 17: Even though the scheduled elections of the four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir has yet to be announced, at least a dozen BJP leaders are staking their claims on the berth in the Upper House.
As per the number of MLAs in the Legislative Assembly, the BJP is in a position to win only one seat of the Rajya Sabha comfortably while on another seat the party has to manage some votes.
Highly placed sources said that a dozen senior party leaders including some of them who lost their recently held Assembly elections are also taking their claims on one of the confirmed Rajya Sabha seats.
“Apart from those who lost Assembly, some senior leaders who were denied mandate in the recently held elections are also eying on the seat”, sources said and added that these leaders have

As per numbers in the present Assembly, the NC-Congress coalition comprising some Independents and two MLAs of CPM and Aam Aadmi Party has the strength to easily win two Rajya Sabha seats. Similarly, the BJP can easily win one Rajya Sabha seat but the party has surplus votes after winning one seat so the central leadership of the BJP would try to win another seat.
As reported earlier, the nomination of five MLAs in the Legislative Assembly is very crucial for the BJP as this action will give a big boost to the party to strengthen its claim on the second Rajya Sabha seat.
In case the five MLAs will be nominated before the announcement of the Rajya Sabha elections the party would make a serious stake on the second seat.
