Painter OP Sharma honoured with Amrita Sher-Gil Award | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 19: Great Sports Culture Club, Amritsar organized 8th National Award giving ceremony at Virsa Vihar, Amritsar where Major Dhyan Chand Awardee, Asian athlete & athletic coach Kuldeep Singh, PAP was the chief guest. General Secretary of Athletic Association, Punjab, Dr. Malti Narang, Principal, Shri Harkrishan School, Sur Singh Bhikhiwind; Film Director, DOP Devi Films & writer Khushboo Sharma, and Athletic Coach Baldip Singh Sidhu were the special guests on this occasion. OP Sharma, well known artist & Director Jammu & Kashmir Centre for Creative Arts (JKCCA), Jammu was honoured with Amrita Sher-Gil Award for his contribution in the field of Art & Culture. O P Sharma, a painter from Jammu was chosen among others for the awards for their contribution in different fields. International coaches, players, artists and singers are among the personalities chosen for these awards. The awards have been named after the great personalities from different fields. The award giving function started with the formal welcome by Vice- Chairman of India Athletic, Bhagwant Singh and Iqbal Singh Randhawa, President of India Athletic. Young school children presented a 'Shabad', and then 'Giddha' was presented by the school children. National President of the Club, Navdeep Singh and its Chairman Succha Singh Olympian, Vice Chairman India, Bhagwant Singh and Secretary Punjab, Rajiv Kumar gave away the awards to twenty two international level players, coaches, artists and singers. Best Achievement Awards were also given to eight achievers for their best services given in their respected fields. It may be mentioned here that OP Sharma is a well known artist of Jammu & Kashmir. Till date O P Sharma has participated in a number of state, national and international art exhibitions and artist camps organized by JKCCA and other prestigious organizations. OP Sharma has been awarded/ honoured by many organizations including Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, Indian Academy of Fine Arts, Amritsar and Snehil, Dehradun etc. He is the Founder Director of Jammu & Kashmir Centre for Creative Arts (JKCCA), Jammu. Through JKCCA he is working for the promotion & preservation of art, culture and languages. On the other hand through his organization JKCCA, he has contributed a lot in the field of art & culture. So far JKCCA has organized sixteen International Art Exhibitions (Online & Offline) and numerous national and state level art exhibitions, and art camps at different cities of the country. It has also organized cultural and literary programmes from time to time at various places.
