Jammu, Nov 19: All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and MLA Dooru Ghulam Ahmed Mir on Tuesday said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will take a call on including a Congress member in his cabinet. “Although we do not have any representative in the government yet it is a reality that this regime is a coalition government. We fought elections jointly. Numbers do not matter. All stakeholders are equally important in the government”, Mir said while interacting with media persons. When asked about the denial of a ministerial berth to Congress in the government, he said, “It is the prerogative of the Chief Minister but we are very much part and parcel of this government”. The Congress, however, admitted that as of now the chances of his party’s representative will get a place in the ministerial berth are bleak. “As per rules in the Union Territory Although we do not have any representative in the government yet it is a reality that this regime is a coalition government. It is the prerogative of the Chief Minister to include a Congress leader into the government. After J&K gets the statehood the strength of ministers would be increased. we have a council of ministers as “Nine-Plus One” in number”, he said, adding, “filling of the vacant vaccines in the council of ministers is prerogative of the Chief Minister’. Mir, however, said that after the granting of statehood to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the strength of ministers would be increased. Recalling that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated on record that the delimitation exercise would be followed by the conduct of assembly elections and restoration of statehood. “After the successful conduct of Assembly elections and formation of an elected government, it is time for the Prime Minister to take a call on the restoration of statehood”, he said. The Congress leader supported the resolution passed in Jammu and Kashmir for granting special status. “The resolution represents aspirations and wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir”, he said. |
